"Evil God are a fairly new extreme metal band from Austin Texas. They play a highly technical brand of death/speed metal. I recently received their debut EP The Deeds of the Antichrist, which was released in 2008 on Negativity Records, free when I ordered the rerelease of Impetigo’s Horror of the Zombies and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. When I first saw the CD, read the bands name and the title of the EP I expected that, when I put it into my CD player, I would be confronted with some poorly produced, and quite frankly awful, black metal that was near impossible to listen to. Instead I heard well written and well produced extreme metal songs with an impressively high level of musicianship, these guys were good and the songs were, dare I say it, catchy.
The album opens with a minute long instrumental/atmospheric intro track witch perfectly sets up the atmosphere for the rest of the album. We are then launched into the high speed riffing of “Dissociative Fugue State” with its machine gun style drumming and “melodic” guitar. This song, like the others on the EP, is well structured with plenty of nice guitar licks and an even faster paced section in the middle. This is extreme metal but it is actually quite easy to pick out the tune as well. The vocals are interesting. They’re sort of black metal screeches but they sound more like they’ve been done with effects and they’re not extremely raw so if you wanted you could try and get the lyrics.
The next track “Malignant Narcissist” carries on in the same way. I love the intro to this song. It starts with just a guitar on its own before the other instruments kick in. Yet again we are treated to theses guys’ instrumental skill as the guitars solo over the light speed drumming. The assault finally slows towards the end to give the guitarist yet another chance to show of his skills.
A keyboard intro leads into the final song “Sleeping Sickness”. I like this song and in places the use of the keyboard does work out but at some points it seems to be at an awkward juxtaposition to the other instruments. Fortunately this section of the song it is not long before this section of the song is over and we get to hear a great, considerably slower song. In this song the bass is slightly more prominent and although it is mainly used in accompaniment there are a few sections where we get to see what the bass player can really do with his instrument, it’s safe to say that he doesn’t disappoint. In the second half of the song the keyboard makes further appearances, this time to a considerably greater effect. The second half is again slower and it grinds along until a final guitar lick and a fade out to the end of the song and ultimately, the EP.
Overall this is a great EP which, if you have a few quid, you should definitely pick up. The clear production of the songs really gives the instrumental ability of the band a chance to shine through. I am eagerly anticipating the release of their debut full length which, according to the Negativity Records website, should be released sometime fairly soon."

"Formed in 1999 in Pavia, Conviction's first line-up included Gianlu on guitar, Rex on drums, Euge on bass and Puccio on vocals. With this formation Conviction played until 2002, when Puccio left the band. Niko became the new singer. Conviction played several gigs in Italy also sharing the stage with bands such as MADBALL, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, IMPALED NAZARENE, DISFEAR, HIMSA, EXHUMED, LABRAT, BARCODE, TERROR, INTEGRITY, etc. Conviction recorded their first CD in june 2003 with Niko on vocals before he left the band due to musical differences. The band continued with a new singer for a while, before the arrival of Sid. First satisfaction in live began to come, and "Physiatrist must die!!" seemed to be the song of the new reborn. Unfortunately in december 2006 Euge left the band, and Conviction began to search the new bass player, without success. Live performances and song writing continued, and in may 2007 Conviction recorded their second CD, "Brutal Entertainment", in which Gianlu played also the bass parts. In the same month, Dario, guitarist full of experience, joined the band as bass player, and the line up of Conviction was so finally completed."

"A bit of NILE, a bit of CANNIBAL CORPSE and INCANTATION melt together on this not very original, yet well performed, professionally recorded and thus highly entertaining 2nd demo from Swedish brutalizers CARRION CARNAGE.
Founded in the city of Linköping in 2001 the band's first recording was a single called "Evil" containing only that particular song, next up was the 1st demo "Mass Murder Rampage" that started murdering the masses in 2003, I've never heard it, but from knowing the band covered SIX FEET UNDER I'm not sure if anything too good can be expected of it, anyway.
"Awaiting Salvation Of Death" is actually really good!
A sharp, ripping guitar sound, natural low growls, a few screams here and there, fierce drumming and also some striking bass play classify CARRION CARNAGE's sonic assault. The demo CD starts with a nice and heavy instrumental, then two pretty "The Bleeding"
- era CANNIBAL CORPSE like straight and powerful Death Metal attacks follow, the fourth song 'Destined To Suffer' features also a second vocalist and some moody slower passages, which showcase that CARRION CARNAGE do not fear to implement some melodies at times. With the other instrumental 'The Eye Of Horus' (featuring a sitar), 'Tortured Souls' and the title-track three NILE-inspired songs follow, whereas the latter is definitely another highlight on this demo album. Tracks 8 to 10 then offer a CANNIBAL CORPSE, a NILE and a MORTICIAN cover, except the latter (it's cool to hear MORTICIAN with real drums!) certainly nothing one necessarily needs, but hey, no one's perfect!
Overall CARRION CARNAGE are a talented, ambitious Death Metal act, that seems to be still on the look-out for its own firm musical line, they honour their inspirations with highest quality and excellent songwriting, but a real individual stance is still missing. Also the MP3 track 'Oppressed By Fear' off the upcoming 3rd demo, one can download on the band's website, exposes this problem. CANNIBAL CORPSE crossbred with NILE, if you like both bands, like I do, you will really enjoy it, but the lack of an individual melodic feel annoys me a bit! Try out this band, because they offer more than solid, brutal art and it's fun listening to them, especially tracks 1-4 and 7, but as a little wish for the future: reduce the NILE - melodies, there isn't really a need for a band imitating that, right?"
